When I first saw the Pipins Reve de Jour I was like “Woooooooooooow!”  I had never actually seen anything like it before and was blown away. The outfit consists of lots of attachments on most of the body parts and is full of colour on a relatively plain and pale base. 

Here is a glimpse of the back of the garment.  Both the texture design and the shape of the garment are abstract. 

This outfit would look totally fabulous on the runway a real show stealer.

Here are some Avantgarde style lipticks to really liven things up.

There are several designs, but here are a couple of them just to get an idea of what they are like. 

The prim teeth worn in the shot are also from HEADTURNERS. 

These are great.  They can be worn with your favourite skin or lippy to give you that something extra.  They come with 2 mouth sizes depending on how much of your teeth you want exposed.  These teeth are suitable for everybody, but you do have to adjust them to fit your mouth and you may also need to adjust your lips to achieve the best look.

NB: Everything in Second Life is mesh if you type Ctrl +Shift + r on your keyboard you will activate the wire frame view and you will see what I am talking about.  For the purpose of this post, when I speak about mesh I am referring to the 3D objects that are created  in an external creation program and imported into Second Life in the same shape as they were built in the external program.  That is what a mesh avatar shape is.  It is an object built in an external creation program and uploaded in Second Life for us to wear. 

Over the past couple of months I have heard various people asking about mesh avatars, wondering what impact they will have on our Second Life activities.  This week after a good friend IMd me asking if I knew where to find a mesh avatar, I set to work.  I did know of one place that sold tiny mesh avatars along with all the accessories to go with it, but my friend and I are part of the Second Life modelling community, so tiny avatars would not serve the purpose for which we would need one.  I found a few places that sell them, but really only two that grabbed  my attention.  However before you rush out in search for yourselves as I know many of you are eager to do, there are a few things to note.

As well as having a viewer capable of rendering mesh items correctly, you do need to bear in mind there are some die-hard V1 based users out there who may not be able to see you correctly.  There are even glitches within the viewers that are able to render mesh, that sometimes means that others don’t see your clothing or even your avatar.

After experimenting a little this is how I decided to style my new avatar. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are thinking about purchasing a mesh avatar, you really need to get into the mindset of beginning all over again as far as clothing is concerned.

Clothing

Important Note

Since your mesh avatar is an attachment worn over your regular one, you cannot wear the textured clothing worn by your regular avatar. Wearing textured clothing will just texture your regular avatar underneath the mesh one therefore it cannot be seen.  The clothing you already have for you regular avatar is un-wearable by your mesh avatar with the exception of items such as jewellery, hair and the bag which you see in the image.    So in essence the creator of the mesh avatar needs to make clothing for that avatar, unless they decide to team up with designers willing to make mesh clothing that will fit it. 

The mesh clothing available in Second Life at the moment that fits regular avatars, will not fit mesh avatars.  I even tried the garment I am wearing with another mesh avatar model by the same creator and it did not fit.  The clothing I am wearing on this mesh avatar was made for this avatar model.

Shoes

Important note

Unless your avatar creator has created shoes to fit your mesh avatar, you will not find shoes to fit it.  Even the mesh shoes and boots, available to fit regulars will not fit mesh avatars (trust me I’ve tried).  The foot shapes of mesh shoes and boots and of regular shoes and boots, deform the feet of the mesh avatar. The shoes I am wearing in the photo were created to fit this mesh avatar model. 

Hair

Not all mesh hairs will fit your mesh avatar.  In fact I struggled to find any that would fit it.  However, you can manually adjust regular hair to fit it as I have done. Be sure to purchase modifiable hair.  Non modifiable menu driven hair may not fit and will be difficult to custom fit correctly. 

Accessory attachments

Most accessory attachments should be fine for your mesh avatar as they are attached to attachment points much in the same way as they are attached to your regular avatar.  As with your regular avatar you just need to adjust them to fit.  I suggest using modifiable attachments instead of those that are menu driven.  There are 2 reasons for this:

1: You are more likely to be able to fit modifiable prims to your avatar better than the non modifiable menu driven type.

2: You will not lag as much with non scripted prims as you would with menu driven items.

Important note: Mesh models have a heavier effect on land impact on sims than models made from regular prims when rezzed,  however although wearing a mesh avatar will not impact on a sim lagging it out, it may have an effect on the client side (meaning on you the user).  This is why it is wise not to wear high scripted items with a mesh avatar.

I like the smooth shape of this avatar and the details of the hands and feet.  Your mesh avatar will only be as good as the work it’s creator puts into it, and you will get what you pay for, so if you are going to invest make sure you invest well. 

Important note:

Mesh avatar shapes cannot be modified in the same way as a regular avatar.  This is because only limited number of sliders work for adjusting the  body shape of a mesh avatar.  I was able to adjust my height, the abnormally large hands ( I have a thing about hand size), legs and neck.  You will not be able to modify any of the facial features.

I love the feet on this avatar, but alas you can’t colour the toenails.

The hands are pretty neat too once resized to your desire.  Again I can’t colour my nails and  I have not yet played with attaching prim nails as I am not a huge fan of them.

This is the Terani  MESH dress in blood.  It’s very pretty and just right for Valentine’s day.  The embellishment on the front of the dress makes it striking, so you can easily turn this into something that you would wear to a bar or party.  I like the Little Miss Vixen look though.

This is the dress in beige, which makes it perfect for the spring we are all so eagerly looking forward to.

Terani comes in 5 different sizes to suit different shaped avatars ( a bit like rl pret a porter shopping right?) However be prepared to do a little tweaking to your shape.  That’s quite normal with all mesh clothing.  These dresses move really well with your avatar when you move.  In the image above I am using a pose that I would not normally use with a garment using the system skirt method and you can see that there is no distortion.  That is the beauty of mesh garments.

I am so proud to be presenting Mea Culpa’s Valentia Del Toro.

Recognise it?  Well for those of you who are not familiar with the “Miss Virtual World” Second Life pageant, this gown was worn by Miss Spain, the beautiful Miss Shena Neox who looked absolutely divine in it.  Mea Culpa designer Tatanka Kaligawa created this highly detailed work of art with the Spanish theme running right through it.  You can see the bull’s horns in this true avante garde piece.

Here is a glimpse of the back where you can appreciate the detail in the train. 

I have seen Shena wearing it and she really made this dress work for her.

There’s this delightful “Be My Date” winter dress, which is easy to wear  and just perfect for everything.  It has a double layer skirt, with the bottom layer in blue and the overlay in black lace.  Very pretty indeed

TURNER LACED DRESS

This is the Turner Lace dress, which I love.  The texture is brilliant, but you have to see it to appreciate it.  It features a gorgeous fitted bodice and tiered gypsy styled skirt.  I’m going everywhere in this on this weekend.

This is the Dreamcatcher hair which is both eyecatching and different.  It can be worn both with and without wisps (bangs).
